What does “Item Delivered” mean in India Post tracking, and what if it is not with me?

Nothing normally follows it. Why the record stops here
A delivery round ends with a handover, and the handover has to be written against the number — that is the whole reason this entry exists. Whoever delivered the article records it at the address, and with that the consignment has no more facilities to be read in at, which is why the record goes quiet rather than continuing. The entry carries the date and time of the handover and the office that delivered it, and those three facts are what let you settle a disagreement about where and when the journey ended. What it does not carry is the name of whoever accepted the article: the public record shows that the handover happened at the address, not who performed it. Where the entry itself is not enough — a sender or buyer disputing delivery, a claim on the value of the article — the extra information is asked for through the complaint route with the consignment number, not read off the tracker.

Usually nothing — delivered is the last event in a normal journey. India Post's own status list does contain a separate “Item Delivery Confirmed” entry, so a further line is possible before the record closes for good.

When delivered does not mean received
Once an article is delivered the risk changes: the record is complete, so a missing item is no longer a question of waiting. Check the address, everyone at it, building security and neighbours the same day, then speak to the delivering office named in the entry. Delivered is not the same as these

- Out for Delivery means the article is on the round for your address today. Delivered means the round completed the handover at that address.
- Delivery Attempted
- Attempted is written when the round reached the address without handing the article over. Delivered requires the handover to have happened.
- Item Returned
- Returned means the article went back to the sender after it could not be delivered. It is the opposite ending to this one, not a variation of it.
