Speed Post rate calculator.
Work out the Speed Post Parcel charge for a given weight and destination. The figures come from India Post's published tariff, effective 1 August 2026.
—
Indicative only. The amount charged at the counter is what applies — discounts, value-added services and tax treatment can change the total.
What each zone means
- Local
- India Post defines Local as articles booked and delivered within identified PIN codes for metro cities; within the municipality limit for cities other than metros; or within the same PIN code delivery jurisdiction for small towns and mufussil areas with no defined town delivery area.
- Within State
- Origin and destination are in the same state, but the article travels beyond the local delivery area.
- Zone / Metro
- Applies to traffic between cities within the same postal zone, and to metro-to-metro traffic. India Post does not publish the zone grouping on the tariff page, so if you are unsure whether your route is charged as Zone / Metro or Other States, ask at the counter — the two columns differ.
- Other States
- The general inter-state rate, used where the route does not fall into any of the narrower categories above. It is the highest of the four.

Speed Post Document
A Speed Post item is treated as a document rather than a parcel below 500 grams and within 420 × 297 × 24 mm. India Post publishes two document rates on its Speed Post page, both for consignments up to 50 grams and both exclusive of GST:
Local, up to 50 g
₹19.00
Across the country, up to 50 g
₹47.00
India Post does not publish the intermediate document slabs from 51 to 500 grams alongside these two figures, so this page does not estimate them. For a document in that range, ask at the counter or use India Post's own booking flow. The calculator above uses the Speed Post Parcel tariff, which is the table India Post publishes in full.
Walk-in discount
India Post offers a discount to walk-in customers based on total daily revenue from the same sender's address, irrespective of how many bookings are made that day. It applies to the booking total rather than to a single article, so the calculator above does not apply it.
| Daily revenue | Discount |
|---|---|
| ₹2,000 to ₹1,00,000 | 5% |
| Above ₹1,00,000 | 10% |
Common questions
- Do these rates include GST?
- No. India Post publishes the Speed Post tariff exclusive of tax and notes that GST is levied as applicable. The calculator shows the published rate by default and lets you add tax at a rate you specify.
- How is a parcel over 5 kg charged?
- The 4001–5000 gram rate applies up to 5 kg, then an additional charge applies for each further kilogram or part of a kilogram. For retail bookings that additional charge is ₹35 local, ₹60 within state, ₹95 zone or metro, and ₹120 to other states.
- What is the heaviest parcel Speed Post accepts?
- Gross weight must not exceed 35 kg, or the volumetric weight as defined by India Post. Length must not exceed 1.5 metres, and length plus girth combined must not exceed 3 metres.
- What is the difference between retail and contractual rates?
- Retail rates apply to ordinary counter bookings. Contractual rates are lower and apply to registered bulk or corporate customers who have an agreement with India Post. If you are posting over the counter without such an agreement, the retail column applies.
- Can I insure a Speed Post parcel?
- Yes. India Post allows Speed Post Parcel consignments to be insured up to ₹1 lakh. Insurance is charged separately and is not included in the tariff table above.
- What compensation applies if delivery is delayed?
- India Post's published compensation for delay is a refund of the Speed Post charges. For loss, pilferage or damage it is double the Speed Post charges or ₹1,000, whichever is less.
